The Happiest Moment of my Life

I could never forget that moment.

“The atmosphere was very tense. In the distance, I could see Maggie Mom screaming at the top of her lungs. All my brothers and sisters were also beside her. And they were chanting “Kopila! Kopila!” It was the semi-final match of the Coca-Cola Cup two years ago. On the football pitch, we were facing our biggest rival – the Army School. All our previous encounters with that team had ended up in defeat for us. It was tough to match their military discipline on the field. Being the school team captain, I knew my team and our supporters were relying on me. But the loud noise and the attention of such a huge crowd made me nervous. We made a few mistakes yet managed to tie up the score and dragged the game to the extra-time, which eventually ended up in a shoot-out. During the penalty, the Army scored first, but we leveled the score. It went on until the score was a nail-biting 4-4. The fifth penalty-taker from the rival team missed his mark. And finally, I started to see a shimmer of hope. Can we finally claim a victory against our biggest rival? We have been waiting for a victory against them for so long that I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if my team failed under my captaincy. Everyone was nervous. The anticipation was killing me, so I looked away. When the referee blew the full-time whistle, and the crowds went wild, I knew we had finally done it! It was the happiest moment of my life.”
