“I hope to be as selfless as my father. He’s kind, soft-spoken and hardworking. Years of doing labor-intensive house painting jobs have worn him out. His hand muscles are so weak now. But despite everything, he never hesitates to help others in whatever ways he can. It’s because of him that I was able to pursue my passion for football, and have succeeded in representing my country on the world stage. After a rigorous selection process, I wasn’t sure if I’d make it to the final list. My father saw that I was nervous, put his hand on my shoulder, and calmly said: ‘Chhori, do not worry. You’ll make it.’ And I did! I can’t help feeling that it was a gift and blessing from my father because when my name was announced, it was Father’s Day.”
